In times of crisis, we are often able to step away from reality and turn to food and entertainment for comfort. During the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we as a restaurant/dining community do not have this luxury. All restaurants in the state of Illinois have been instructed to close their doors to dine-in guests and only offer takeout and delivery for at least the next two weeks. We agree, that this precaution is wise. However we have made the very hard decision to close our doors immediately for public service for an indefinite period of time. For the next couple of days The Fat Rice Community Relief Kitchen will utilize our resources and our inventories to provide for local foodservice professionals in need who have been displaced from their jobs. We understand that many may not have had a chance to appropriately prepare. It’s the least and best thing we can do. We will provide pre-packaged meals/cook-at-home kits for our colleagues in need until supplies run out. We will be offering these meal kits to industry members affected by this crisis at a “pay what you can” model starting at $0.50 via online payment. These boxes will be available for pick-up at specific designated times with receipt. In times like these we all need to support each other, be safe, be aware and be kind. We appreciate you all for your amazing support and love over the past 7+ years.
We hope we can dine together very soon.
